Kalkar is a town that is brimming with history. Kalkar was an established and thriving town in its own right as early as 1242 Today, Kalkar is composed of 12 Districts. In alphabetical order, these are:

Altkalkar – Appeldorn – Bylerward – Emmericher Eyland – Grieth – Hanselaer – Hönnepel – Kehrum – Neuluisendorf – Niedermörnter – Wissel – Wisselward

If one adds together the populations of all these districts, Kalkar has approximately 14,390 citizens. Visitors Attractions in Kalkar:

This friendly town is highly recommended to visitors. Many of the town’s buildings are Medieval, and have been renovated and restored for residential or commercial use.

And we shouldn’t forget the Church of Nikolai, which is an attraction all by itself.

"Water Wonderland" is a fantastic recreational trip for family days out.

It has a park and playground for children, as well as a Bowling Alley, and evening entertainment for adults.

Anyone can participate in sporting activities throughout the Summer at the Beach Park at Wissel Lake.

Besides the swimming and huge water slide, there is also a Boat Hire shop and a Sailing and Diving School.

For visitors who don’t want to get wet, it also has a Bicycle Hire facility.

And for any visitors who find the water too wet and the bikes too difficult, there is always the Muhlenhof Golf and Country Club in the nearby hamlet of Niedermornter. This boasts an 18-Hole Golf Course in a picturesque landscaped environment.

For those with an interest in History, Kalkar’s Museums are well worth a visit.

The Municipal Museum focuses on 20th Century Art, whilst the Heritage Museum gives you a glimpse into the lives of our ancestors.
